Groundworks commenced this month on the first stage of Westland Milk Product's new 7ha development at Izone, Rolleston's growing industrial park. Completion of Westland's 17,000m² warehouse is expected by the end of the year, alongside plans for a rail siding connecting to the nearby Midland Branch rail line.

large new site at Izone.
"Izone is well situated because 90% of our product is currently railed from Hokitika to Christchurch for export," says Westland Milk Products acting chief executive Hugh Little. "We don't own the current storage facility in Sydenham so this will give us a permanent base along with the additional storage space we now require."
All 30 of the company's marketing, documentation and warehousing staff in Christchurch will eventually transfer to Izone. Little says the company plans to develop in time the entire site.
The largest industrial subdivision in the South Island, Izone is owned by Selwyn District Council. It covers 180ha, an area dwarfing Hagley Park, and is being marketed throughout New Zealand. Significant landowners already include The Warehouse, CRT, Designline and Solid Energy, with several more large contracts in the final negotiation stage.
Izone development manager Robin Hughes reports sales are well ahead of schedule with no sign of a slowdown in enquiries.
"Izone offers the best priced industrial land in Canterbury at around one-third the price of Hornby and, thanks to a supportive local council, attracts significantly lower rates."
