In 2010, the Selwyn District's economy grew faster than any other territorial authority in the country.
The news comes from the BERL Regional Performance Indicators 2010 report that was released without fanfare post Christchurch's earthquake.
Selwyn has always been a high performer, since 2008 it has featured in the top five districts in New Zealand for population, employment and GDP growth.
In 2010 Selwyn's population grew by 2.6 per cent, well ahead of the national average of 1.2 per cent. Selwyn's growth over the past five years averages out at 3.4 per cent.
The district's GDP performed admirably in tough economic times growing by 6.3 per cent and last year 459 jobs were created in Selwyn, a 4 per cent growth rate.
