Izone's master plan is based upon establishing an attractive and stimulating work environment.
Lyn Dunlop
Accounts Clerk, Designline
Being able to live and work in a town that has a strong sense of community is important to Lyn Dunlop.
Seven years ago she and her husband moved to Rolleston where they've raised the youngest two of four children. The two that still live at home commute to and from their courses at Christchurch Polytechnic.
As an accounts clerk at Designline, being able to work near home is important for Lyn. "It's great. It cuts down on the amount of time you spend in the car and on your expenses. I love it."
Lyn says she's particularly happy that Rolleston is a small town with good shopping amenities. "I don't have to go to a mall, everything I need is here."
Todd Paterson
Site Manager, PGG Wrightson Seeds
Todd Paterson is pleased his daily commutes are a thing of the past.
The 36 year-old lives in Rolleston with his wife Sarah and two children where he coaches his son's under seven's rugby team and is a Rolleston Rugby Club committee member.
The PGG Wrightson Seeds facility in Izone replaced outdated premises in Christchurch, for Todd that means less time on the road and more time with the family. "It makes it easier for me to be involved in the community."
Todd says that since PGG Wrightson Seeds was built in Izone one of his colleagues has made the move to Rolleston and a couple of others are thinking about it.
Nick Konjin
The Warehouse
The closing of a small rural school in the Waitaki Valley created a life-changing opportunity for Nick and his wife.
As the school's social worker Nick had to find a new job and a new home. "We chose Rolleston because we didn't want to live in a city."
Now 23 years on Nick thinks Rolleston is itself getting a bit too big. "Still, you can't stop progress," he says.
Nick loves the fact that he can walk to and from home to his job in Izone at The Warehouse. He works in the reworks department which ensures products have the correct prices and labelling.
Nick and his wife have four grown-up children. He loves gardening and model railways however an overflowing garage has put paid to that hobby for the moment.
Joe Hefford
Fire Safety Officer, Mid Canterbury Area
After 30 years commuting to and from the central Christchurch fire station, Joe Hefford from Tai Tapu now works in Selwyn.
Joe originally moved to Tai Tapu because he wanted to live in a place that had a sense of community.
"Selwyn's been pretty good to me. My wife Pam and I did the usual things like supporting the Waihora Rugby Club, Pam was secretary for many years of the Plunket and local scout group and I was a chairman of the Tai Tapu Residents' Association."
"My future's here – one of our children farms near Killinchy while the other is still at home.
The fire safety officer says he's pleased the branch office is in Izone. "It's central to the community we serve, from here it's easy to get to Hororata, Lake Coleridge, Colgate, Akaroa, Ashburton or Timaru."
